Abstract

This paper intended to provide some arguments that sustain the intercultural approach in language teaching and the development of an intercultural communicative competence. Students enrolled in a pre-service teaching programme should be aware of the intricate connections that exist between L1 cultural dimension and L2 cultural dimension. A mixed research study was conducted in order to investigate the would-be teachers’ attitudes and abilities towards the use of sayings in the foreign language classroom as a means of improving their intercultural communicative competence.
