Abstract

In many industrial processes and in energy plants dead time is inherent. Controlling dead time processes is not a recent topic. However, most of the theory available in this direction is either in continuous-time, or uses advanced model based control algorithms that require complex implementation strategies and are not appealing to plant operators. This study will approach one of the most implemented controllers from industry by providing an up-to-date review of the available discrete-time PID tuning rules for dead time processes.
