Abstract

Biaxial tensile tests of steel sheets with different r-values are carried out using cruciform specimens in a servo-controlled biaxial tensile testing machine. Plastic orthotropy remains coaxial with the principal stresses throughout every experiment. Yield loci, planar variations of uniaxial yield stresses and r-values, and directions of plastic strain rate vectors of the test materials are measured and compared with those predicted by existing yield criteria: the Hill ‘48, Hill ‘90, Barlat ‘89 and Banabic-Balan-Comsa (BBC) yield criteria. It is found that the, BBC yield criterion can reproduce the general trends of the experimental observations.
