Abstract

This textbook is designed for the students from the Mechanical Engineering, Machine Building Engineering, Material Science Departments, as well as for those section of the Technical University, whose curricula contain courses in general chemistry, technical and technological chemistry.
The laboratory manual opens with a chapter on the laboratory management, the labors safety techniques.
The next chapter deals with laboratory equipment and tools as well as with laboratory operations and measuring of masses and volumes. This chapter contains drawings destined to get the students familiarized with the laboratory where they are going to work.
The structure of the chapters which include experimental work is always the same, comprising a short theoretical introduction, followed by object, equipment description and chemicals necessary to execute the experiments, continued with the work procedure, the analysis and presentation of the results.
In each of laboratory work the working procedure is described and its target. They refer to: the measuring of the concentrations for some practically important solutions, the water analysis, the study of the metallic materials, a qualitative analysis of the metallic elements in an alloy, using the electrograph for their extraction and specific reagents for their identification, as well, a method for nickel plating, the measurement of the electrochemical corrosion of metals. One of the works deals with the determination of the characteristics of some lubricants (mineral oils).
The manual paper provides the students with the main practical chemical knowledge, which represents the application of theoretical notions.
The textbook offers also to the graduates the possibility to apply the acquired practical knowledge at their future working place, with a minimum of laboratory equipment.
