Abstract

This paper is intended to reflect on a paradigm shift in foreign language teaching. Living in a globalized world brings new perspectives on the intricate relationship between language teaching and culture. Therefore, would-be teachers enrolled in initial teacher training programs in Romania should be able to teach language and culture in an integrated way. We have conducted a qualitative and a quantitative research in order to further understand the would-be teachers’ perceptions of the native speaker vs. the intercultural speaker model and the native vs. non-native teacher debate.
